The following notes were prepared by Jennifer Holehouse and Rochelle Bungie:
  • ViewletBuilder works with a series of screen shots. You use ViewletBuilder to take a screen shot for every step in a procedure that you want to teach. The more screen shots the better. For example, take a screen shot of the beginning window in your application and if you are teaching a series of menu or button clicks, take another screen shot of your mouse over the button you are going to press, then another shot when the button is pressed down, then another when the menu pops up, etc.
  • ViewletBuilder then puts all of your screen shots together in PowerPoint thumbnail fashion so you can add call out boxes, text boxes and written instructions to each screen shot.
  • Then you can add your voice instructions with the written instructions as well.
  • When you are ready to produce your Viewlet, it strings them together to make the video.
  • ViewletBuilder takes care of smoothing out the motion of your cursor from point A to B.
  • You can produce Viewlets in Java for the Web.
  • You can add still images or links from PowerPoint presentations to your Viewlet or links that produce email messages.
  • You can record in full screen size or adjust the screen size for varied resolutions of your viewers.
  • You can import screen shots from other Viewlets.
  • You can have text only slides for instructions or intros and endings.
  • You can add hyperlinks to any slide -- good for feedback.
  • $799 for one copy - $749 each for 2 -5 copies.
  • The option to publish the Viewlet to the Intranet seems to be very straightforward; it can even be done within the menu that pops up after compiling the Viewlet. Helpful for groups who don't have a web developer dedicated to them.
  • Tech support is FREE and excellent. Lisa usually sends them an error log and they get back to her right away. She’s never had the need to call them for an immediate answer.
  • There is a manual that can be downloaded from their Website. It's a PDF file under the Support menu - it is very good.
